Land Acknowledgment - Ottawa
🛵 Why Land Acknowledgment Matters to Vespa Zitas Scooter Club 🛵
At Vespa Zitas Scooter Club, we believe that where we ride matters as much as how we ride. As a community rooted in motion, connection, and freedom, we feel it’s essential to recognize the deeper history of the land we gather on—Ottawa, the unceded and unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinabe Algonquin Nation.
By offering land acknowledgments, we honor the Algonquin peoples’ enduring presence, culture, and stewardship of these lands. This is more than a formality for us—it’s a gesture of respect and a reminder of our shared responsibility as guests and community members to move forward with awareness and care.
We support land acknowledgments because they spark conversations, deepen our collective understanding, and reinforce our commitment to reconciliation. As riders, we travel through spaces shaped by generations past; we aim to do so with gratitude, openness, and solidarity with Indigenous communities.
🛵 Land Acknowledgment Statement 🛵
The Vespa Zitas Scooter Club respectfully acknowledges that we gather, ride, and connect on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinabe Algonquin Nation.
We recognize that Ottawa, the place we call home, is built on the ancestral lands of the Algonquin people, who have lived, travelled, and stewarded this land since time immemorial.
As riders and community members, we are committed to honoring the stories, traditions, and stewardship of all First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples, and to deepening our understanding of what it means to roll forward with awareness, gratitude, and respect.
